CAD PROJECTS
(2016-2017)
About the Class

Huntley High School offered a wide variety of engineering and technology classes with the growing PLTW program. After my freshmen year, I found my passion of 3D modeling and quickly changed my classes from the engineering route to a more specific route: AutoCAD.
I was in AutoCAD classes my last three years of high school and it was easily my favorite class to go to everyday. I had learned Autodesk Inventor from my first engineering class freshman year and decided to stick with it the rest of my four years. I quickly became very good at the program and was knocking out projects in a week that would usually take students months to complete.
My mentor, Nicholas Wedoff, saw my passion for the programs and made my last year more of an exploratory class where I was going to teachers and helping them with personal requests whether it be designing a piece they wanted printed or redesigning their room to be more effective in the next year. The two programs I used for the three years were Autodesk Inventor, a much simpler version of AutoCAD, and Chief Architect, a program similar to Revet. Below are all projects created from these programs:
Dream House Design
September 2016

One of my first big projects during my junior year was creating a "dream home design". We did a lot of research on specific house types, materials, and roof types all prior to the creation of the dream house. Before the project, we learned about different types of views in blueprints (like top, side, and orthographic). We were required to draw an example of a house in two-point perspective (as shown in the top right image).
The project was considered to be a starter project because of how simple it was: no interior planning was integrated into the house. The beach cottage I made had a tan exterior, a backyard (with a pool), two garages, and white exterior decking.
Logo Design and 3D Printing
December 2016 - February 2017
After the last project, our school year became more of a pursue-your-own-passion class where I started to make items for other people. At this time it was Christmas, so I created an ornament for my neighbors on their favorite football team: The Ohio State Buckeyes! The design was a huge success and I managed to print it off in time for them to hang up. At that point, I was getting good at tracing logos on Autodesk Inventor and giving the logos varying depths.
When Christmas time reached its end, I now had people who had seen my OSU design and wanting 3D logos of their own. As long as I was able to pay for the price of plastic, my teacher allowed for me to keep 3D printing. I got requests for more colleges, football teams, and my hardest challenge the Liverpool soccer team logo! All of these logos became weekly creations for the next two months.

Wood Project Designs
March 2017
Eventually I got tired of creating logo after logo, so my teacher managed to help my start new projects around the school. One teacher requested a way to store all of her vinyl rolls. Her previous ways of storing them were messy and unorganized. She also requested a way that the storage can be locked up from the other teachers. The teacher had around 40+ vinyl rolls so the storage unit had to be big! Not only that but she also wanted additional storage for other items (shelving units). This project was much more of my time because the teacher continuously tweaked my design and wanted to add more features to the point where I was unable to give her a finished product due to time constraints of the school year.
Another teacher requested a way to store all of his blankets in an effective storage device. This blanket rack was much different from others as it now has a lid device attached to it. The teacher wanted to be able to use the blanket rack as a small desk as well. This project was quick because the teacher only wanted a way to show others his plan of what he wanted it to look like.
I did not end up cutting these two pieces out on the CNC machine but rather gave both teachers an effective design to implement however they want.

Room Redesigns
April 2017 - May 2017
After making pieces for the teachers there was other plans that a teacher had: a room redesign. She needed a new layout for her television production classroom. The teacher of the film classes was now getting upgraded computers and desks and needed to pitch the idea to the principal for funding. The teacher has selected one kind of table for her kids to collaborate and said she needs to hold 10-12 Macs. The slideshow shows the original layout of the classroom. The color scheme she wants is Huntley High School themed (Red, Black, Gray, White). The last slide is the final layout that the teacher liked.
In between projects, I help my dad create visual aids for his projects. One being his bathroom proposals. He was giving his client three types of layouts for the bathroom to see which one they like the most and which one my dad is going to build for them.
